Abstract

Forest monitoring and change detection systems employ remote sensing data provided by optical satellite sensors due to the availability of open access time-series data of global coverage. The challenge is exploiting such available temporal data over Pakistani forest regions and augmenting it using high spatial and temporal data gathered via low-cost UAV systems to monitor the change in the forest. The use of UAVs has an interesting dimension, i.e., it allows the acquisition/generation of 3D point cloud datasets. The aim of this talk was to highlight the 3D Modeling techniques for Forest Monitoring.

Speakers

Dr. SamiUllah Dawar is an Assistant Professor/Head at the Department of Forestry and Range Management, University of Kohsar. He has worked on multispectral, Lidar, InSAR, stereopair aerial photographs and stereoair high-resolution satellite imagery for the generation of canopy height model (CHM) and for volume and above-ground biomass (AGB) estimation. His research includes forestry and remote sensory data.
